Project Overview
Clarion won the bid to undertake the end-to-end logistics of all FF&E and OS&E movement for our client. We have done Consolidation, Air movement, FCL Movement, LCL Movement, Express Air Movement, Warehousing and delivery to final site from more than 12 different countries and the project lasted for almost a year. Every single piece of furniture or operating supply sourced from outside the UAE for this 235-room property was done through Clarion Shipping.
Challenges
The biggest challenges the customer faced were:
- Time: The soft opening date was set and the client had to ensure that all the cargo arrived in UAE and was cleared, delivered and assembled.
- To stay within the budget – As the duration was over a year, the rates kept fluctuating but the client did not want to exceed the budget allocated to them.
- Intending, planning, ordering, tracking of incoming cargo had to be conducted efficiently with 0% error. The cargo came from different countries, through different modes, at different time with different levels of urgency.
- Warehousing & Delivery: As and when one part of the construction was over, delivery meant for that area needed to be done while construction in other parts of the hotel was happening. This was to be done with close coordination with building contractors, fit out contractors and hotel pre-opening team so that no damage to goods occur and the remaining work is not interrupted.
- Safe movement for high value items like crystal chandeliers, expensive carpets, paintings etc. needed to be done.
- Ad hoc/ Emergency movements: For a project of this size, there always will be some cargo that needs to delivered to the hotel within a very short time span.

Key Action Taken
- A team was formed for this project which oversaw the movement of every single item which was coming in from different parts of the world.
- At any time, there were at least 10 -12 shipments in transit.
- Clarion ensured that proper documentation as well as insurance coverage for the shipment was created and accounted for. For instance, when a very expensive designer lamp was damaged in transit in Germany, the product was replaced with a new one by working closely with Clarion’s insurance partner.
- After clearance, items very carefully stored, some of them in temperature-controlled areas.
- Clarion ran a very efficient delivery mechanism from warehouse to site to temporary delivery bay.
- As there was size restriction to the basement where the temporary delivery bay with elevator was present, Clarion had to use multiple types of vehicles for different legs of the movement as well as labor and forklifts at site for cross stuffing. This was done extremely efficiently without a single damage to any piece of product or time delay.
