Project Overview
One of Clarion’s clients wanted the door to door movement of 79 vehicles including a mix of Armored Vehicles, Trucks, Caravans, ATVs, APCs and SUVs for an African Government. They needed the vehicles to be moved in a single lot to a land-locked country in Africa using containers, open tops and flat racks via sea and trucks
Challenges
The biggest challenges the customer faced were:
- Ensuring movement of all vehicles in one Bill of Lading in one shot for facilitating clearance in the transshipment port, borders and end country.
- Safe movement of vehicles from transshipment port which is in another country till the final destination which is more than 1000 km away.
- Ensuring availability of low bed trailers and container trailers in the transshipment port in Africa which will need to move in a single convoy.
- Fast, seamless clearance at different borders.
Key Action Taken
The movement which spanned 3 months from initial planning to final delivery was done by forming an ad hoc team which oversaw each and every step of this movement.
- In spite of a shortage of special equipment in the loading port, Clarion ensured the availability of it along with other GP containers in time for loading.
- Industry best materials and safety standards were used for lashing, securing, bracing and blocking of the vehicles which ensured the vehicles were safe during sea voyage and subsequent road movement in Africa
- Close coordination with the Port Authority, Customs of the transshipment port, various governmental entities in the receiving country, border agents, transporter and shipping line ensured no delayed happened in the transshipment port or any borders and vehicles were received in the same condition as received.
