A Flexi bag is a thin, airtight, flexible bag used to be placed in dry containers for bulk transport of non-hazardous liquids and powders. This flexi bag becomes a flexi tank when it is placed inside an intermodal freight container. The Flexi bags are lightweight, foldable, and easy to set up, and they can occupy up to 24,000 litres of liquid cargo. A flexi bag can easily convert a traditional shipping container into a secure and effective bulk liquid transport container. Flexi bags are made of high-tensile-strength polyester fabric that has been coated on both sides with elastomer or plastomer (PU, PVC, nitrile).
The flexi bags were invented during World War II in order to transport diesel. Later, in the early 1960s, the U.S. military used flexi bags to reserve and carry water and fuel. The primary version of existing flexi bags was designed in the 1990s when the rubber tanks were replaced with more durable and economical thermoplastic (PVC), and it became the preferred choice for chemical loading. The modern flexi bag, which is made of multi-layered, thin polyethylene, became commercially available at the beginning of 2000.
In order to provide strength and prevent accidental tears, Flexi tanks are manufactured from the durable, FDA-approved plastic material called polyethylene. The inner layer of this food-grade polyethylene is secured by the outer woven layer of polypropylene to safeguard structural integrity. This multilayered arrangement prevents the bag from breaking and the contents from spilling. Flexi tanks are an ideal substitute for ISO containers for shipping milk, fruit juices, beer, wine, industrial oils, animal and vegetable oils, food-grade liquids, emulsions, detergents, glues, adhesives, molasses, and non-hazardous chemicals. On average, flexi tanks have a capacity of between 10,000 and 24,000 litres and can be transported by road, rail, or sea.
What can you carry in a Flexi bag?
Flex tanks, which are highly efficient and less vulnerable, are used to transport non-hazardous chemicals as well as food-grade goods.
- Fuel reservation:
Liquid fuels such as diesel, petrol, gasoline, and oil can be easily stored and shipped in Flexi bags. To provide the surrounding area with further confinement and safety, a protective lining and a berm are also paired.
- Water reservation:
Flexi tanks take up a lot of space. One flexi bag is equal to 85 barrels. During times of emergencies and disasters, they are effective at storing and transporting water.
- Non-hazardous chemical reservation:
Industrial liquid chemicals, including liquid latex, liquid detergent, lubricants, paints, and fertilizers, are transported by flexi tanks.
- Food-grade liquid reservation:
Food-grade liquid substances like juices, wines, milk, fructose syrup, and others can be safely stored and shipped in Flexi tanks.
Advantages of Using a Flexi Bag
Flexi bags are in greater demand since they are a secure method of storing and transporting non-hazardous chemicals. They also provide superior defence against the contamination of liquid cargo.
In comparison with drums, IBCs, and ISO tanks, flexi tanks are less expensive. Using flexi tanks, bulk liquids can be transported at a cost that is 33% lower than that required to transport them using traditional liquid containers.
- Massive quantity
Flexi tanks provide large capacity. A single flexi bag can easily hold 24000 liters, far more than a barrel, which only holds 207 liters. So, you can take more loads in a single shipment. As a result, it lowers the cost of delivery.
- maintain product quality
Flexi tanks preserve the quality of the product unimpaired. The flexi bag is made of multi-layer polyethylene and is joined by a pump and valve to keep it waterproof, airtight, and weatherproof. The flexi tanks are developed for single-use, preventing additional contamination.
- Easy loading and unloading
Filling flexi bags does not require the use of a forklift or other heavy machinery. Thus, the loading and unloading process will be done at a fast pace. Additionally, there is less product loss during loading and unloading compared to IBCs.
- Less Labour
Flexi tanks are easy to handle, load, and unload. Therefore, there is comparatively less labour involved. Due to this, the logistics revenue is significantly smaller.
Despite the fact that the bag is made to be used only once to avoid contamination, the polyethylene material can still be recycled and used to make other items.
